The Safe Youth Coalition is a tax-exempt non-profit school/community coalition located in the northern Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C. The coalition covers the area of Fairfax County, VA within the boundaries of the Fairfax County Public Schools Cluster 5. Cluster 5, one of eight clusters, is in the south of the county and is made up of 2 high schools and 2 secondary schools and their associated feeder schools. The coalition is the largest of 19 unified school/community coalitions that were initiated by, and currently operate with the guidance of, Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) Safe and Drug-Free Youth Section, a division of the Department of Student Services. OUR MISSION:The Safe Youth Coalition supports programs that foster an atmosphere where all youth can grow up in a safe environment free of violence, prejudice, and substance abuse. The coalition is committed to strengthening family-community-school partnerships and is working to make a difference for youth in the Greater Springfield/Lorton and Alexandria areas.
Safely Surf Teen Years at a Prevention Conference, MARCH 3, 2007 AT SOUTH COUNTY SECONDARY SCHOOL
Parents and young people ages 12 to 18 will learn about “Riding the Wave - Tools for Adults and Youth to Safely Surf the Elementary through High School Years” at a prevention conference from 9 am – 2 pm Saturday, March 3rd, 2007 at South County Secondary School. Check-in, late registration and the serving of a complimentary continental breakfast will begin at 8 a.m.
The 2n Annual Prevention Conference is hosted by Safe Youth Coalition, Inc., a substance abuse and violence prevention coalition under the umbrella of the Fairfax County Public Schools Safe and Drug Free Youth Office. Collaboration with county agencies, local organizations and businesses is key to the success of the conference.The conference is open to everyone who lives within Fairfax County Public Schools’ Cluster V boundaries for Lee, Edison, Hayfield and South County schools as well as the addition of the West Springfield pyramid schools this year.
